Fracto Experimental Film Encounter announces its fourth edition and invites the Berlin audience to immerse themselves in 4 days of film screenings, sound installation and talks, taking place at Kunsthaus ACUD in Berlin-Mitte from the 22nd to the 25th of October 2020.
The main programme gathers 58 film and video works by artists and filmmakers selected from an international open call that has received more than 1000 submissions. The selection will be presented in a series of curated programmes providing diverse and critical perspectives on contemporary media ecology through a wide range of non-narrative approaches to filmmaking: poetic and political reflections on topical issues, sensuous investigations of landscapes and bodies, excavations of personal and collective memories, explorations of the thresholds between human and non-human worlds. Though intended for collective viewing in a cinema space, the programmes will also be available for online viewing within a limited time frame.
The special programme Gioli-Eizkyman will be dedicated to the italian artist Paolo Gioli and the french filmmaker Claudine Eizykman, in a 2-night all analog programme that celebrates cinematic agitation
The screenings, talks and concerts will take place at ACUD Cinema, Studio, Club, Gallery and the courtyard.
Kunsthaus ACUD was founded in 1991 and is situated right in the center of the city. It is one of the last remaining independent art-houses of Berlin. In 2014, the initiative ACUD MACHT NEU saved the house from foreclosure and has since set in motion interdisciplinary projects on the intersection of art, music, performance and digital media in their spaces Studio, Club and Gallery.
Dear Fracto friends,
We recently announced the postponement of the fourth edition of FRACTO - Experimental Film Encounter from May to October 2020.
Although it does not come as a surprise, this is not a decision we take lightly. In an effort to do all we can under the current circumstances, part of 2019’s programme was made available to stream directly from our website last week.
Financial support in the arts (specifically experimental film) is constantly in a precarious and vulnerable state. These films were released for public viewing as a gesture by the artists to offer something to everyone in quarantine, a small symbol of support. In return, we would like to send a gesture to the filmmakers, by asking for donations as symbolic support to the artists.
This is our POLITICAL STATEMENT.
The streaming initiative was not only about sharing or showing films, but about clarifying how artists need to constantly strive to meet society's demands without giving anything back. Thank you!
Every contribution makes a difference. All funds will be split evenly between the filmmakers who made their work available to stream.
The deadline for submissions to the 2020 edition has been extended to the 1st of JULY.
PLEASE DONATE HERE
Stay strong and stay healthy & we’ll see you in October,
Your FRACTO team
